Fort McMurray, Alberta – The Northern Canada Collective Society of Writers (NCCSW) is thrilled to announce its communications coordinator and local multidisciplinary artist, Anna Pottie, as guest editor for NorthWord Magazine's Issue 34, themed "Nonsense."
Pottie has a rich artistic background in graphic design and digital illustration. Her portfolio spans collage, illustration, and wordplay, which beautifully blends design sensibility with storytelling. Her work celebrates the strange beauty found in ordinary chaos, infusing humour, nostalgia, and a touch of the uncanny.
When discussing the theme, Pottie said: “I chose ‘Nonsense’ because I have been captivated by Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland since I first discovered it. I’m fascinated by the playful absurdities that turn logic on its head, question the rules we live by, and celebrate the joy of the delightfully inexplicable.”
As NCCSW is excited for the Issue 34 artist call, the Society would like to thank the writers and artists who submitted a total of 57 submissions for NorthWord’s upcoming Plastic-themed issue, which is currently being guest edited by Emma Carter and set to launch during National Poetry Month in April 2026.
Stay tuned on NorthWord’s social accounts for details on the 2026 magazine launch events, returning for a third year at the Fort McMurray International Airport, thanks to partnership from the Fort McMurray Airport Authority.
Issue 34, themed "Nonsense," is set to launch in September 2026, coinciding with Alberta Culture Days. Artists can send original works to northword@hushmail.com by April 30, 2026.
